But what a better way to eat them, with less mess. As a kid, I was more of a cup eater. I mean, it was easier to get the last drops out of a cup than it was a plate. The looks of one licking a plate clean is neanderthal. This is my first attempt at placing them in a canning jar. Getting the right jar size is important; big enough for layers, but not too big for all the calories that people shy away from them. The pict shows a Red Velvet with whipped topping. It was cut in half, with frosting in between. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper
next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has
gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

________________________________________

I received this on an email from a family member (thanks Stacey), and thought it conveyed an important point. Just got one (iPod Touch 32Gb), and personal organizers are going in the direction of 'tablets'. No moving parts, few buttons and it has everything to do with touch, hence the iPod Touch. My first personal organizer was an electronic rolodex type of calculator. Many buttons, a single line of text on a 7-segmet display; and it was huge. My, how times have changed!

Back in those days you didn't have to check for software updates or synchronize with a personal computer. But now you can use those little devices for e-mail, place on-line orders, 'Tweet' and update your Facebook status.

Oops, got an e-mail, gotta go and check it, because if I don't check it, I might miss something...

Fall is here:

I can feel it in the air, temperatures are falling (a bit) and I can't wait to get into the Pumpkin side of things. The story of Emperor Norton's life will prove that attitude is everything, when it comes to being successful.

Some called him crazy. Others called him a fool. But most San Franciscans in the late 1800s called him Emperor. Emperor Norton, that is. He was titled "Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico." He "ruled" San Francisco from 1857 to 1880, spreading smiles and happiness. Even thought he tried to corner the rice market and lost his fortune, he was a happy man. He went from riches to poverty, yet Norton refused to accept that he had to loose his joy. He "Crowned" himself and began parading around the streets of San Francisco in full costume as emperor.

There was something so appealing about a man who insisted on enjoying life that people of the city by the bay went along with the charade. The good king was granted front row seats at every theater opening. Tailors carefully created and mended his regal hat, cane and uniform at no cost. The finest restaurants served this monarch their best meals free. The railroads offered transportation "so he could address his subjects." Emperor Norton even had an honorary seat in the state legislature!

How did a man with few financial means earn such a lavish lifestyle? He dealt in a currency that's all too rare these days -- the currency of smiles. His majesty always brought a smile to the faces of others; like the time he ordered a bridge be build to span the bay -- the Golden Gate Bridge; or when he decreed that a giant Christmas tree be raised in Union Square for the children of his kingdom.

We fathers can learn a lot from this would-be sovereign. If we would win the hearts of our children, we must be willing to share with them a simple lasting joy that our Father gives us in life. When we do, our children, like the people of San Francisco, will remember us with fondness.

Funny thing about Emperor Norton. You, too, have probably gotten a little joy from this so-called crazy man. Mark Twain immortalized the emperor in the character of his pauper "king" in the classic novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. If you have read the book, you, too, have met the emperor of the United States and protector of Mexico.

(Taken from the book, The Heart of a Father, by Dr. Norm Wakefield)

Spicy Raspberry Tea Cakes:

These little tea cakes pack a small punch of chipolte and cyan peppers. A gift of cookies makes the heart grow fonder. It is so true, especially for those whose love-language is receiving gifts.

With consumer confidence at an all time low, it's good to see people coming in to purchase our delicious confectionaries. My personal view is, that consumer confidence (in retail sales) is inversly proportional to the market price of crude oil.

We need to stop relying on non-renewable energy, and focus on renewable energy. But that means mass trasit, light-rail and solar. Hopefully we're smart enought to see the writing on the wall as consumers, because our buying choices will change the market economy.

The Holidays are here!

As seen at right, the 1-1/2 Dozen Wine Crate wrap is fast becoming one of the favorite corporate gifts to give this season; priced at $34.95.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, Crumbles is gearing up for it's busy season. Ice Cream Sandwiches are another specialty item that is popular during the summer months.

The best part about our concept is that we package our gourmet cookies into gift items that you can take (or ship) to your friends, family and/or clients.
